In order to ensure the highest level of voice quality, we recommend that an additional 80-100 Kbps of bandwidth per active phone be allocated over your current data consumption. If your connection normally deals with 5, concurrent calls at any given moment, 400-500Kbps of bandwidth is required to be available for just the VoIP traffic and at least another 1.5Mbps available for your other/non-VoIP traffic.
If you’re experiencing degraded VoIP audio, we suggest you first check the performance of your Internet connection. To test the speed and consistency of your connection, try free pingtest.net. Your ISP should also offer tools to measure whether your connection is robust enough to support VoIP service.
Network Configuration Recommendations
1. Contact the ISP about placing the 3rd party router behind the DMZ of the provided gateway or opening a pinhole for that specific router or place their provided gateway into ‘Bridge Mode’.
2. Connect all VoIP devices and switches into the 3rd party router.
